Director: Andy Muschietti
Cast: Jaeden Lieberher, Bill Sarsgaard, Finn Wolfhard
I kind of remember watching the original TV mini-series when it came out, but I don’t remember the specific story line. Since I never read the book, this was like a new experience for me. Stephen King movies have always been hit or miss for me.
CHARACTERS: The young kids in this story are great. Instantly likable and putting in solid performances. Finn Wolfhard from the hit Netflix show Stranger Things has all the best lines and nails each one. He’s easily the breakout star here. Bill Sarsgaard was also very effective as a the creepy clown Pennywise.
STORY: I did think the movie had some small pacing problems. There seemed to be long lulls in between what I felt was going to be the true aim of the story, “The kids vs. The clown”. It seemed to take a long time to get them all on the same page. That being said, when the third act kicks off, it becomes a fun and thrilling cinematic experience. Some plot points are a little questionable, but overall this exactly what it should be, thrilling, creepy, not too scary, and leaves you wanting more.
