Walking Dead VR Experience – Saints and Sinners – NYCC 2019
I was a little nervous taking this one on. I had very limited experience with anything VR. Luckily any fears were unfounded. The game was so immersive and fun that I didn’t even feel (too) self-conscious miming like a maniac when zombies were attacking me through the headset. Mr. Rick Heaton was very patient while explaining a mass amount of information and watching me stumble through the virutal world.
As soon as you get going the game is fun. The movements feel so natural and the controllers provide perfectly timed feed back to make you feel like you are interacting with the world. It’s clear the developers behind the game are big fans of the Walking Dead world. This is a culmination of every previous available Walking Dead experience. The hit network show, the massively successful comics, and even the beloved Telltale series. Mr. Heaton even gave me the heads up to look for some easter eggs directly tied to Telltale.
The combat feels natural and even little things are thought of. Steadying the gun, proper shooting form, maintenance, crafting. Forget your FPS habit of reloading every time you take a shot, you’ll be dropping full magazines at your feet. I found the bladed weapons the most satisfying. Holding a zombie steady with your free hand and driving a knife in was pretty awesome with the force feedback. I did get some compliments on beating a woman to death with a frying pan so that’s cool. Though out of context the police could show up at my house.
The game is segmented into days that are signified by bell towers. The bell towers are a key part of the story so it doesn’t feel like a device at all. This not only made for a well times demo but also gives players a natural end to break from VR if they are new to it. You also have the option to marathon through. I know I’ll be playing until I can’t take it anymore come January 23rd when the game comes out. I’m actually buying a VR set purely in anticipation of it.
Skydance Interactive and Skybound Entertainment Unveil First Official Trailer for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
Players Must Choose the Path of Saint or Sinner in the Upcoming Virtual Reality Game Set in the Expansive Universe of The Walking Dead
Skydance Interactive, a division of Skydance Media, and Skybound Entertainment today unveiled the first official trailer for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, giving players a first look into the unforgiving wasteland they’ll face in the upcoming virtual reality title, slated to launch on January 23, 2020. This first official trailer showcases the gruesome adventure players will embark on as they journey through the flooded remains of New Orleans. Players must make gut-wrenching choices and find out who they are in their fight for survival against not just walkers, but the constant threats of violence, disease, and famine.
In The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, freedom of choice and visceral combat offer players a new way to live survival horror in a deep-rooted VR gaming experience. Scale buildings to ambush enemies from above, hold down a walker’s head to rip a knife out of its skull or attack from a distance with throwing weapons, bows and long-range firearms. Players can choose from an arsenal of weapons or craft their own to fit their play style and survive their way. Physics-based combat makes every swing of an axe or jab of a knife resonate with impact.
Choices in The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners will affect not just how the combat plays out but the fate of the city and its other survivors. New Orleans is at war and the living are not just fending off the dead, but each other as well. Will players risk life and limb to protect those in need or eliminate anyone who stands in their way? Will they join one of the warring factions, or play them against each other for personal gain?
As players dive deeper into this unforgiving journey they will uncover the mystery at the heart of the conflict that threatens to tear the city apart. Filled with discovery, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners will have plenty for players to explore, craft, fight and uncover when it launches on January 23, 2020.
