Cast:
Douglas Smith Carrie Anne-Moss, Faye Dunaway
A horror movie that somehow forgot that it was supposed to be scary, or at least interesting. “The Bye Bye Man” is about 3 college students (a guy, his girlfriend, and his best bro) that move into a big old scary house off campus. The girl starts to hear some strange things in the house, and convinces a somewhat “psychic” to come over and investigate and hopefully cleanse it of any negative juju.
Needless to say, strange things start happening when one of the teens find some scribbled writings in an old drawer that says “Don’t Think It, Don’t Say It”. When he reads the name of the Bye Bye Man, that conjures a mysterious and creepy looking being that starts traumatizing these youngsters.
The rest of the movie is the group trying to figure out what is happening to them, and I’m going to tell you,  it’s incredibly dumb throughout. There’s maybe three kind of atmospheric scenes, and maybe two attempts at a jump scare, but the writing, acting, and visuals are completely sub par, even for a “B” horror movie.
Carrie (The Matrix) Anne-Moss and Faye (Chinatown) Dunaway show up later on to try to bring some gravitas to the story. It’s so far gone by that point, there’s just no use for the attempt.
I know it’s only the middle of January, but this will most likely be the worst film of 2017, I’m sure of it.
