Movie Review: FIST FIGHT

Fist Fight

Director:
Richard Keen
Cast:
Ice Cube, Charlie Day, Christina Hendricks.

In this silly, goofy comedy, Charlie Day plays Andy, a nebbish, mild mannered high school English teacher who becomes a witness to a crazy incident between a student and a extremely hot headed History teacher named Strickland played by Ice Cube. This happens on the last day of the school year, so the hours of the day are filled with high school kids pulling ridiculous pranks everywhere.

When Andy’s job gets put on the line, he is forced to throw Strickland under the bus in order to keep it. Strickland doesn’t take that too well. He challenges Andy to a fight after school, and the remaining day is spent watching Andy try to worm his way out of getting beat up.

This movie is absolutely ridiculous and funny. Charlie Day plays a good straight man who has great reactions to all the insanity going on around him. Ice Cube is clearly having fun playing up his bad ass persona and his natural comedic timing. Although there are a lot of jokes that are shown throughout the trailers, there’s still plenty of really good scenes that haven’t been hinted at yet.

The supporting cast is also really strong. Tracy Morgan does what he does best. Jillian Bell has some really funny lines too. I really wish that there was more scenes with Christina Hendricks, but she makes the most of her few appearances.  This movie has some great jokes and it really ramps those up by the third act. It may be a little by the numbers during the set up, but it completely sticks the landing.
