Movie Review-JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2
John Wick: Chapter 2
Director:
Chad Stahelski
Cast:
Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Common, Ruby Rose
I’m guessing he’s back. Keanu returns as the bad ass professional killer who was out for revenge in 2015’s “John Wick”. Originally he was avenging the death of his dog and getting revenge on the punk that stole his car. Now he’s back, right where he left off.
This movie starts by wrapping up the end of the first story, but the consequences from his quest for revenge open up a new set of circumstances that force him back into this underground world he tried so hard to leave. This time getting out may not be as easy. If you liked the first film, you will most almost definitely like this new one. The world that was created before gets expanded a bit more, showing that this is almost a comic book style of story. Keanu is once again the cool headed man of conviction, who clearly doesn’t want to be “The Boogeyman”, but proves that if you’re going after him, you better not miss because he will most likely put a bullet in your head. The movie once again surrounds Keanu with really good co-stars such as Ian McShane reprising the role of “Winston”, manager of the Continental Hotel safe space, and Common as a fellow assassin crossing Wick’s path.
There are some exposition scenes that could be trimmed back some, but once you sense a gunfight approaching…hang on to something. This is a great throwback to the old school “John Woo” shoot em ups of the past! The gunfights here are staged in long sequences, they are unique (characters actually reload), and the headshots are way too many to count. John Wick Chapter 2 is a full on, beautifully filmed, bullet ridden thrill ride. I can’t wait to watch it again.
