Movie Review – Money Monster

Director:
Jodie Foster
Cast:
George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell
In Money Monster George Clooney stars as the host of a financial investment TV show who is over the top, goofy, but extremely successful and loves his job. Julia Roberts plays his long time TV director who has just about had enough of his shenanigans, and is leaving the show soon. Enter Jack O’Connell as a New Yorker who decides to invest some money based on the TV star’s recommendation. When an unexplained fluke happens all of his money, plus millions of other people’s dollars disappear, the man decides that he wants answers and holds the TV host hostage in a live broadcast until he gets what he wants.
Based on the commercials I’ve seen of this movie, I pretty much knew how this movie would play out, so I wanted to see if they would be able to build up tension. I’m happy to see that the movie is suspenseful, despite having some pacing problems. There’s a little to much time of the hostage and the captor just hanging in the studio, waiting for something to happen.
This movie doesn’t really work unless you believe in the characters, and get involved in their situation, and everyone in the cast is really good here. When the story does start to unravel the mysteries of the missing money, it’s easy to get caught up in what’s going on and what’s going to happen to them.
Jodie Foster did a decent job at directing this one and she definitely shows that she has strong opinions about Wall Street. All in all, this is an suspenseful look at the money men running the world, and the story of a guy who lost it all and wanted some accountability from them.
