THE FRIDAY FIVE: TOP FIVE AWESOMELY BAD VIDEO GAME VOICE ACTING

It’s Friday! Time for another countdown in the world of nerd with The Friday Five!!
No matter how great a video game is, the budget has to be cut somewhere. Unfortunately for these games, they decided to scrimp in the area of voice acting. For us, we get to laugh at these terrible, terrible moments of sometimes confusing, sometimes strange, but always hilarious cut scenes. This week, the top five awesomely bad video game voice acting!!!
5) Two Words 1 and 2
The Elder Scrolls series of games has you adventuring in a giant open fantasy world, adventuring and fighting and are tremendously popular. Now, imagine if they sucked really bad, were filled with game breaking glitches and some of the worst voice acting allowed by law. Enter the Two Worlds duology. After the release of the original and god awful first game there was inexplicably a sequel made. Surely they learned from the first installment and at least recruited competent people to read the script, right. Ruh roe.

4) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Symphony of the Night is one of the greatest games ever made. The sequel to the classic NES games features hybrid exploration and action gameplay that was groundbreaking at the time of release. There’s also something else that’s classic about this game….the voice acting is TERRIBLE. Battle your way through a castle full of monsters and here is what Dracula has to say. I present to you the boss battle that launched a thousand internet memes:

3) Chaos Wars
Chaos Wars is an obscure RPG that was released for PS2. Just getting an American release was huge for a niche game like this was a victory for gamers. It’s no surprise that corners had to be cut to keep the budget realistic. Thankfully the developers found some friends who had zero interest in voice acting to read the characters lines in the game. It sounds like they literally pulled random people off the street. It’s not just one scene or line, the whole game is like this. Check out this scene, I always lose it when the monster shows up….

2) Resident Evil
An absolute classic, Resident Evil was like nothing people had ever seen when released for PlayStation. Genuine scares and creepy camera angles combined to become a massive hit and launch a franchise that still continues to this day (and has some HORRID movies based on it too). Too bad Capcom didn’t really care about the voice acting at all. There’s so many classic terrible lines from “Stop it. Don’t. Open. That. Door.” to the Jill Sandwich scene. Sadly, as the games became more popular, more effort was put into the acting with subsequent releases, but we will always have Barry examining Chris’ blood.

1) House of the Dead 2
The great granddaddy of all terrible video game voice acting. From the title screen to the ending, just unbelievably bad. If you can get to the nonsensical ending through the tears of laughter streaming down your face you will be unable to understand how this was released in this state. How did anyone at Sega hear this and say “Good enough”????? Thankfully they did or we wouldn’t have such a classic, classic, CLASSIC of terrible voice acting.
